Secret Shopping in Bothell

Secret Shopping in BothellBoutiques, Antiques and Thrift-Store Heaven

Sprawling malls and upscale shopping venues string colorfully along the Eastside and northern suburbs, but Bothell has somehow managed to retain its historic small-town ambiance without the company of retail giants. That leaves plenty of room for unique boutiques, antique shops, thrift stores and even a custom crystal shop.

Antiques

Nearby Snohomish is chockfull of antique shops, but did you know that Bothell harbors some of the region’s best old-time relics in its own Country Village “shopping farm”? Whitehouse Antiques serves as an elegant repository of yesteryear home decor but also happens to sell handmade chocolates and nostalgic penny-candy (think saltwater taffy, candy cigarettes, honey straws and wax lips). Town Hall Antique Mall broadens the backward reach with farmhouse chic from 15 different sellers, while Quite the Find is a great place to find vintage posters, handpainted signs and collectibles.

Nifty Thrifties

Everyone loves a bargain, but even better when it’s a hidden gem with stories to tell. Thrift shopping reaches cult status in the Pacific Northwest, and Bothell has its fair share of recycled treasure hunts. In the Canyon Park area, check out Helping Hands Thrift Store in the big blue barn, or its sister reclamation center, Helping Hands Home and Décor.

Head toward Kenmore on Bothell Way Northeast to hit the granddaddy of them all: St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. When Seattle superstar Macklemore sings “I’m gonna pop some tags, only got $20 in my pocket,” this is exactly the kind of Seattle thrift store he raps about. The color price tags throughout the store change daily, offering 50-percent discounts and starting mad-thrift dumpster dives.

Boutiques

Small local boutiques are the heart and soul of Bothell shopping, and none shines more that Se•lyn Boutique & Crystal Shoppe on Main Street. The real draw here is spectacular custom-designed jewelry, including rainbow moonstones, pink opals and chakra pieces. You can splash some serious cashon the tanzanite goddess necklaces, lacing your neck with up to $2,000 creations worthy of Cleopatra herself.
